CiviCRM is an open source software application that actively promotes your control and ownership of your own data and software infrastructure, as a feature and as a benefit.
As a CiviCRM partner, Squiffle supports this ideal. Your data and your CRM are yours.
“Data sovereignty”, “data portability”, “no vendor lock-in” and similar phrases relate to a simple question: if you want to move away from your current service provider or vendor, can you take all your data and code with you? Can you continue to operate in the same way with a different provider?
At Squiffle, that’s a simple “Yes!”. It’s your CiviCRM system and we are a trusted partner helping to run that for the benefit of your organisation.
We don’t provide hosting – you manage and pay for your own hosting arrangements which means if you want to stop using Squiffle’s services your CiviCRM system continues to run uninterrupted on your hosting. The hosting providers we recommend provide you full access to your data and CiviCRM code. We will help ensure you have appropriate hosting and guide you through the process but you are not dependent on Squiffle – your hosting agreement is always directly with the hosting provider, not with Squiffle as an intermediary.
Be particularly wary of those who offer systems “based on CiviCRM” or “CiviCRM with our exclusive, proprietary, unique-to-us, lock-in extras”. It may look good, but if you want to move away later and are not provided with all the relevant code and data, you are faced with extra cost and disruption.
